WCS Kenya Marine Program advances sustainable marine conservation through the Miamba Yetu Sustainable Reef Investment Programme. This initiative promotes blue carbon projects, eco-friendly tourism, and sustainable fisheries to generate funding for reef conservation while supporting coastal communities. By mobilizing resources and fostering locally led conservation enterprises, Miamba Yetu ensures long-term financial sustainability for marine protection along the Kenyan and Tanzanian coast.
Sustained conservation efforts require innovative financing solutions. WCS Kenya Marine Program is advancing conservation finance to support long-term marine ecosystem protection by generating sustainable revenue streams while benefiting coastal communities. Through initiatives like the Miamba Yetu: Sustainable Reef Investments Programme, we promote sustainable financing models that enhance reef conservation and community resilience.
Miamba Yetu is funded by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs and is implemented in both Kenya and Tanzania -including the Zanzibar archipelago. Priority sectors include ecotourism, sustainable ocean production and waste management, ensuring that marine conservation is both economically viable, community driven and address drivers of coral reef degradation. By engaging stakeholders, mobilizing co-funding, and supporting locally-led community groups, WCS seeks to ensure the long-term conservation of resilient reefs in the region.
