Seascapes-Oceans

Kenya’s coastline is home to diverse and vital marine ecosystems that support thousands of species and sustain coastal communities that rely on ocean resources. The WCS Kenya Marine Program is dedicated to protecting and conserving these ecosystems by working closely with local communities and stakeholders to address key threats to marine habitats and biodiversity.
WCS Kenya contributes to WCS’s global efforts to protect wild places, focussig on small-scale fisheries, coral reef conservation, sharks and rays, ocean giants area-based conservation, and conservation finance.

For over 30 years, WCS Kenya Marine Program has been dedicated to protecting and conserving Kenya’s rich marine ecosystems, ensuring the sustainability of ocean resources for both biodiversity and coastal communities. In alignment with WCS’s global mission, our work focuses on preserving marine wildlife and critical habitats through science-driven conservation efforts, community engagement, and strategic policy interventions.

We collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental partners, and local communities to address key threats such as habitat degradation, overfishing, climate change, and the unsustainable exploitation of marine species. Our conservation initiatives focus on six core areas: small-scale fisheries, coral reef conservation, area-based conservation, sharks and rays, ocean giants, and conservation finance.

Through these efforts, we aim to strengthen marine protection, promote sustainable livelihoods, and contribute to global ocean conservation goals.
